The multifunctional space relay System (MCSR) "Luch" (the operating organization is JSC SS Gonets, part of the State Corporation Roscosmos), successfully completed the tasks of targeted application during the descent of the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft to Earth in unmanned mode.

On March 28, 2023, at 12:57 Moscow time, the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft departed from the small research module "Dawn" of the Russian segment of the ISS and landed near the Kazakh city of Zhezkazgan at 14:45 Moscow time.

The complex of dynamic operations for undocking and landing an unmanned spacecraft on Earth was carried out using the channels of the Multifunctional Space Relay System "Luch". The Luch system provided the transmission of telemetry data to the Mission Control Center (MCC) of the ISS RS, as well as the issuance of control commands on board the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft until it entered the radio visibility zone of communications equipment installed on earth. The data was relayed using the Luch-5A and Luch-5B spacecrafts.

Currently, according to the established work program, the Luch MCSR continues to provide the crew of the 69th expedition of the ISS RS with a broadband information transmission channel with the possibility of voice and video communication. The use of the Russian Luch relay system makes it possible to organize the exchange of information between the ISS RS and the MCC and minimize the involvement of the American TDRSS relay system.

The unmanned Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft returned more than 200 kg of cargo to Earth. Among them are the results of scientific experiments, equipment for analysis or reuse, equipment of the Soyuz MS spacecraft and equipment for broadband communication systems, control of onboard equipment, control of the onboard complex, air conditioning, etc.
