Gonets presented satellite communication capabilities at the "Arctic: Territory of Sustainable Development" Forum
28.03.2023

Representative of JSC "Satellite system "Gonets" (part of the State Corporation "Roscosmos") spoke about the capabilities of the "Gonets" system at the "Arctic: The Territory of Sustainable Developmen"t Forum, which was held on March 24, 2023 in Moscow.

The annual Forum, organized by the State Corporation "Roscosmos", is held with the aim of presenting current promising projects, forming new domestic developments and the information base of enterprises and organizations of the State Corporation in the field of development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

Maxim Diordiev, Director of the Satellite Systems Application Directorate of SS Gonets JSC, presented at the Forum the possibilities of using the Gonets low-orbit system to provide satellite communications in the Russian Arctic. The subscriber equipment of the Gonets system has been successfully used for many years on fishing vessels of the Northern Sea Route and allows you to quickly transmit data to the industry monitoring system and track the location of vessels located in the most remote areas of the Arctic. During the winter navigation in 2014-2015 and 2020-2021, under an agreement with Rosatom, the Gonets system was tested on board the 50 Years of Victory nuclear icebreaker, and in the period from November 2019 to December 2020, the Gonets system was tested on training sailing vessels - the Sedov barge and frigate "Pallada", performed circumnavigations of the world. The complex of tests was successful and confirmed the possibility of the Gonets satellite system to implement a two-way guaranteed data exchange throughout the Northern Sea Route. The subscriber terminals of the Gonets system are compact, easily integrated into the customer's system, depending on the purpose of application, and can be used in any weather and geographical conditions. Digital solutions using the Gonets satellite system can also be used for monitoring industrial facilities, oil and gas production, power grids, digital monitoring of liquid media, road and river transport, as well as for hydrological and meteorological monitoring.

In the promising Gonets system, which is under development and will replace the current one, the possibility of installing automatic identification system (AIS) equipment on board satellites is also being considered. This will make it possible to track all vessels in the Arctic waters at once, their mutual movements and various operational parameters online.

The Forum was also attended by other enterprises of the Roscosmos State Corporation, the Arctic Expedition Center, the Scientific and Expert Council for Monitoring the Implementation of Legislation in the Field of Energy, Energy Supply and Energy Efficiency under the Committee on Economic Policy of the SF of the Russian Federation, the Interregional Trade Union of Fleet Workers "Marine Trade Union", the National Association of Energy Enterprises, as well as representatives of federal and regional state structures and private business.
