JSC "Satellite System "Gonets" (part of the State Corporation "Roscosmos") presented satellite monitoring capabilities at the International Forest Forum and Exhibition "Russian Forest", which took place from December 7 to 9, 2022 in Vologda. Within the framework of the forest forum, which was held with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the State Duma of Russia, experts discussed key events and new legislative initiatives in the timber industry, issues of effective forest management and forest protection, as well as the introduction of advanced technologies in the field of forestry.
Alexey Panasov, Head of the Commercial Department of SS Gonets JSC, spoke at the round table "Digital solutions for wood accounting", where he spoke about the use of the Gonets satellite communication system and the possibilities of using Gonets services in the logging industry.
Ksenia Karakchieva (Director of Operational Management of Ilimsky LTUS LLC) presented an industry development -the Cedar software and hardware complex (PAK), the use of which on logging equipment has significantly expanded in 2022.
"The Cedar PAK, a domestic solution based on the Russian Gonets satellite system, is especially relevant in the era of import substitution. Our solution enables businesses to get away from manual data collection and allows them to make management decisions quickly," said Ksenia (cit.).
PAK "Cedar" is a modern telecommunications platform that allows the PAK to work efficiently and safely, as well as to prevent illegal actions. The Cedar complex is easily integrated with the customer's accounting systems installed on logging equipment. This allows you to continuously monitor the volume of harvested wood, the location of logging equipment, the time of its operation and downtime, fuel and lubricants consumption and other parameters. The use of the Cedar PACK makes it possible for loggers to reduce operating costs by 10-20% and increase the volume of production of finished products.
The complex was developed by Ilim LTUS LLC (a telecom operator providing services to the leader of the pulp and paper industry of Russia, Ilim Group JSC) on the basis of Russian software, and data transmission is carried out through the Russian low-orbit satellite system Gonets via secure communication channels. In 2021, the Cedar PAK was successfully tested at logging enterprises of the Irkutsk region, and the Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions and is currently actively used for monitoring logging equipment. The Cedar PAK can also be used on mobile and stationary objects of the main infrastructure (gas and oil pipelines), mining equipment, various industrial, transport and storage facilities.
"Russian Forest" is one of the largest expert platforms for business and government representatives dedicated to the development of forestry and the timber industry in Russia, where the results of the work of the forest industry for the previous period are summed up, a new strategy for the development of production and business is discussed.
