JSC Satellite system Gonets (part of the State Corporation Roscosmos took part in the International Forum and exhibition "Weather. Climate. Water / Remote sensing / Green Economy", where it presented a solution developed at the beginning of this year for transmitting data from unattended stations "Gonets-Hydromet". The events were held on July 20-21 in St. Petersburg, at the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition complex. This year, the events were timed to coincide with the commissioning of the ice-resistant LSP platform "North Pole".
The Gonets-Hydromet complex allows for automatic data collection and transmission via satellite from the most remote locations, which is extremely important given the extensive geography of the location of weather stations. Representatives of the satellite operator held talks with colleagues from Roshydromet and its member industry institutes developing solutions for meteorological monitoring. Technical aspects of the operation of the Gonets terminals in use at weather stations and plans to equip new stations with satellite terminals in 2023 were discussed. In addition, the possibilities of using Gonets communication terminals on autonomous buoys in order to monitor hydrobiological indicators were considered.
The Gonets system has been used for many years to provide communication at remote weather stations of Roshydromet, transmit meteorological monitoring data and reserve communication channels. A promising complex should significantly expand the list of services that can be provided by means of the Messenger satellite system. This should serve to intensify the information flow, increase the efficiency of obtaining primary data for analysis and, ultimately, further improve the quality of forecasts.
