JSC "Satellite System "Gonets" and the Center for Fishery Monitoring and Communications (CFMC) will develop an action plan to modernize and improve the maintenance of satellite terminals "Gonets". This was discussed during a meeting on the use of Gonets satellite Earth stations (SES) on the vessels of the Russian fishing fleet.

The event took place on February 9 via video conferencing, and was attended by representatives of JSC "Satellite System "Gonets", CFMS and some of the fishing industry companies.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of improving the performance of the ship stations "Gonets" in the North, design flaws identified during operation, as well as ways to eliminate them. In addition, at the meeting, issues of improving the operation of equipment already installed on the ships of the fishing fleet, including in case of a failure, were discussed in detail. The discussion was held with the involvement of technical specialists of JSC “Gonets Satellite “System” and the service organizations, maintaining the SES in various ports.

‘The meeting was held in a constructive manner, we identified some bottlenecks in the operation of “Gonets” equipment and agreed with the manufacturing company to develop an action plan to improve the equipment, taking into account the comments of the fishermen, as well as to improve the service as a whole. CFMC keeps to the policy of import substitution and, together with the manufacturer of SES “Gonets”, will actively work on further improving of the Russian-made equipment, which is not inferior to the foreign counterparts,’ said Alexander Mikhailov, deputy head of the CFMC.

On January 1, 2019, an order of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia entered into force, according to which all fishing vessels that extract biological resources in the regions of the World Ocean to the North and South of 75° degrees must be equipped with “Gonets” ship earth stations.
